I recommend reading the following before continuing to the size guide for your tech suit.

If you are reading this article, I’m assuming that you already know what tech suit you are looking for and what performance benefits these suits hold for us as swimmers.

I’ve put this article together to cover the sizing for all of the most popular tech suits from the following 5 popular swimming brands, namely Speedo, Arena, TYR, Mizuno, and Finis. Below you will find the sizing charts for different tech suits of each one of these swimming brands.

Size charts represent both inches and cm values. The inch values are placed first and after that, you’ll find the cm values separated by a slash (/). It is important to choose the tech suit size most accurate to your measurements and not to size up or down as this will affect the fit.

If a tech suit is too small, it will be almost impossible to get it on and you will run the risk of tearing your suit, if a tech suit is too big you will lose some of the performance features as explained later in this article.

In the case that you find yourself between 2 sizes or able to fit into 2 sizes I recommend going with the bigger size as it will ensure that the suit fits and isn’t too small. Keep in mind, in this case the bigger size will still fit very tightly and you won’t lose any performance enhancing benefits.

As mentioned earlier, I am sure you are already sure what tech suit you want to go with, but for the purpose of ensuring that you find the best suit possible for you specifically and the events you swim, I will include a short description of each tech suit that will inform you more about the suit as well as which events it is ideal for.

You will see that there will also be a link with each tech suit where you can view the latest price and more information on SwimOutlet, I highly recommend that you purchase your tech suit from them as they offer extremely fast international delivery, provide great discounts year round, and offer the lowest prices for your tech suit that you can find online.

For those of you who are not quite sure about your tech suit option or want to learn a bit more before making a purchase, I recommend the following articles-

With that said, I hope that this article helps you to find your ideal tech suit fit. Happy swimming!

Tech suit sizing charts: What size tech suit should I get?

The size tech suit you should get depends on the swimming brand and the tech suit model. Every brand has different tech suit sizes and there may also be size differences between tech suit models. Ideally, you should reference a tech suit size chart to find the right size.

Note that the thinner fabric is less durable.

Arena Tech Suit Size Chart:

Arena Carbon Glide, Carbon Core FX, Carbon Air 2, Carbon Flex VX, Carbon Ultra, Carbon Duo, R-Evo One & Powerskin ST 2.0 Sizing

Arena Carbon Glide Tech Suit

The Arena Carbon Glide is one of the latest tech suits released by Arena and is absolutely loaded with awesome performance-enhancing features. Some of its advanced features include an ultra hydroglide shell, carbon grid technology, water-resistant fabric, internal muscle taping, optimized range of motion, and a lightweight construction.

The Carbon Glide tech suit is ideal for more versatile and longer events such as 200s, 400s, 500s, 800s, 1500s, 200 IM, 400IM, and 200 breaststroke events.

Arena Carbon Core FX Tech Suit

The Arena Carbon Core FX is another one of Arena’s most latest and advanced tech suits and was released alongside the Arena Carbon Glide. The Carbon Core FX packs some very solid features including an advanced internal taping system, external dual taping, carbon cage technology, and a lightweight design.

Unlike, the Carbon Glide, the Carbon Core FX is designed for shorter sprinting events, but is still a very versatile tech suit. I recommend this tech suit for all 50, 100, and 200 events, as well as 200 IM and 400 IM.

Arena Carbon Core FX Tech Suit

Quick summary: the Arena Carbon Core FX is a compressive tech suit ideal for sprinters and also makes a good IM option. It is optimal for all of the strokes.

The suit has many innovative features, including an advanced carbon compression cage, state-of-the-art taping system, lightweight water-repellent fabric, and a flexible design.

Downsides include lacking water-repellent technology and short drawstrings.

Arena Carbon Air 2 Tech Suit

The Arena Carbon Air 2 is one of Arena’s most popular tech suits and also one of their top flagship tech suits. The Carbon Air 2 was released a few months before the Carbon Glide and Carbon Core FX tech suits and is a great overall tech suit.

One of its key features is its super lightweight design. Other features include a single fabric construction, carbon bands, optimized range of motion, and highly water-resistant fabrics. This suit is ideal for any swimming event ranging from 50s to 1500s and beyond. Keep in mind, this wouldn’t be my first pick for breaststroke swimmers.

Arena Carbon Flex VX Tech Suit.

The Arena Carbon Flex VX tech suit has been around for a while now, but is still without a doubt one of the best tech suits out there- especially for breaststroke swimmers. This is the suit worn by Adam Peaty when he has repeatedly smashed the 50 and 100 breaststroke world record.

Some of the suits features include a multi-panel design with advanced taping, a V-Flex design, intelligent muscle compression, a lightweight design, a locked in hydrodynamic construction, and taped seams. This suit is ideal for events ranging from 50s to 200s, as well as 200 IM and 400 IM.

Arena Carbon Flex VX Tech Suit

Quick Summary: The Arena Carbon Flex VX is a great all-around tech suit uniquely fitted to a wide array of events. This includes everything from sprinting to long-distance swimming. It’s also particularly popular among breaststrokers.

Its design features a compressive but lightweight fabric, innovative taping system, optimized range of motion technology, intelligent muscle compression, taped seams, and premium grips, providing you with exceptional swimming performance in the pool.

My only complaint is that it can be hard to get the suit on.

Arena Carbon Ultra Tech Suit

Likewise, the Arena Carbon Flex VX, the Carbon Ultra has also been around for quite some time. Nonetheless, it’s still a solid tech suit with some good features. Some of its features include an ultra compression cage, an infinity loop design, continuous taping, water-resistant fabric, and X-Pivot compression technology.

This suit isn’t quite as versatile as some of the other suits and is highly concentrated on sprinting events such as 50s and 100s, although it can be used for 200s as well.

Arena Carbon Ultra Tech Suit

The Arena Carbon Ultra is one of the most compressive tech suits ever made making it ideal for sprinters.

The design features ultra-cage fabric for intelligent muscle compression, infinity-loop technology for optimizing body position, continuous taping for added muscle support, and X-pivot technology to allow for an ideal range of motion.

Arena Carbon Duo Tech Suit

The Arena Carbon Duo is another one of Arena’s most recent tech suits and it was released around the same time as the new Arena Carbon Air 2. This is a very innovative tech suit that is designed specifically for women and allows them to practically customize and design their very own suit which is pretty neat.

The Carbon Duo consists of a tech suit top and bottom jammer which are then combined to create a full tech suit. Women can pick and choose between different sizes and colors for their tops and jammers to create a unique suit.

Seeing as this suit is completely customizable it means that it is ideal for whichever event you design it for. If you go with smaller more compressive sizing it will be ideal for sprinting and if you size up a little bit it will be ideal for distance and IM events.

Top Pick for Female Swimmers
Arena Carbon Duo Tech Suit

The Arena Carbon Duo is the only tech suit designed specifically for female swimmers. It aims to optimize performance and comfort by allowing you to customize your tech suit. A jammer and top are picked separately.

The design features comfortable shoulder straps, innovative racing fabric to reduce drag, and carbon cage fabric for intelligent muscle compression.

The suit is also highly flexible to provide an ideal range of motion while optimizing your streamlining and body position in the water.

Arena R-Evo One Tech Suit

The Arena R-Evo One tech suit is Arena’s popular mid range tech suit. This suit comes in at a lower price than all of the flagship suits we just discussed and packs a serious bang for its buck in terms of features and performance.

Some of its features include a single fabric design, fine-thread high-density fabric, and a lightweight, flexible, and compressive design with great water-repellent technology. Additionally, the R-Evo One tech suit is ideal for any swimming event.

Arena R-Evo One Tech Suit

Quick Summary: The Arena R-Evo One is a popular mid-range tech suit ideal for all strokes and events.

The suit presents a flexible and lightweight construction while drag is reduced using a single fabric design, sole bonded seam, and water-repellent coating. Additionally, the fine-thread, high-density fabric provides muscular compression.

Keep in mind, this is a mid-range suit, so don’t expect the features to be quite the same as that of a high-end suit.

The Arena Powerskin ST 2.0 is the highly popular and signature budget tech suit of Arena. This suit comes in at a very affordable price and has some good features including intelligent muscle compression, a lightweight design, optimal range of motion, and an ergonomic construction ensuring comfort and stability.

TYR Venzo Tech Suit

The TYR Venzo is the latest tech suit released by TYR and is easily the most advanced and innovative tech suit released by them to date. Some of its super-cool features include a frictionless fiber construction, surface lift technology, an endo-compression cage, a seamless exo shell, and a lightweight and highly compressive design.

This suit is designed mainly for sprinting events ranging between 50s and 200s, but it’s also ideal for 200 IM and 400 IM and makes an excellent option for breaststroke swimmers.

Top Pick for Sprinters and IM
TYR Venzo Tech Suit

Quick summary: the TYR Venzo is one of the best sprinting tech suits, although still perfectly suited to mid-range events. The suit works well with all strokes.

Features include a durable, water-resistant fabric combined with a frictionless fiber construction and seamless exo-shell to reduce drag. Built-in surface lift technology, dual layering, and an endo-compression cage further enhance your performance.

Downsides include lacking comfort and being hard to put on.

TYR Avictor & Women’s Fusion 2 Sizing.

TYR Avictor Tech Suit

The TYR Avictor has been around for a while now, but is in fact designed to work in contrast with the new TYR Venzo tech suit. The Avictor is still one of TYR’s flagship tech suits and packs some great specifications like hydrosphere technology, supersonic flex bonding seams, a lightweight design, proprietary water-resistant fabric, and targeted muscle compression.

This suit is designed as a more versatile suit ideal for longer distance events like 400s, 500s, 800s, 1500s, and all IM events. But from my experience, I’d say that this suit is also a good option for shorter distances such as 50s, 100s, and 200s, although it won’t be quite as effective as the new TYR Venzo.

TYR Avictor 2 Tech Suit

Quick summary: the TYR Avictor 2 is an excellent all-around tech suit ideal for all strokes and events. It's most optimal for middle- and long-distance events and is popular among breaststroke and IM swimmers.

The suit reduces drag using a lightweight, hydrodynamic construction and water-repellent surface lift technology. Additionally, supersonic flex bonding seams and targeted compression panels further optimize your performance.

Downsides include less durability due to the thinner fabric.

TYR Fusion 2 Tech Suit

The TYR Fusion 2 is the signature TYR budget tech suit and comes in at a super affordable price. This suit isn’t anywhere near the TYR Avictor or Venzo in terms of features, but will still allow for some decent performance benefits regardless.

Some of its features include a lightweight design, water repellent coating, isolated muscle compression, and flat-lock stitching for a secure fit. Like other budget tech suits the TYR Fusion 2 is also ideal for any swimming event.

Mizuno Tech Suit Sizing Chart.

Mizuno Sonic GX V, Sonic GX IV, Sonic GX III, Sonic MX Sizing.

Mizuno Sonic GX V Tech Suit

Mizuno tech suits have proven themselves to be very worthy and to pack some really great performance enhancing features. The Mizuno Sonic GX V is the latest tech suit released by Mizuno and is loaded with some really solid features, such as a flat concept design, sonic light ribtex fabric, extreme water-resistance, compressive inner panels, Sonic line X taping, and low profile taped seams.

In terms of events, all Mizuno suits come in 2 main variations, namely an ST and MR variation. The ST variation is recommended for sprinters and includes all 50 and 100 events, although it can be applicable to 200 events as well.

The MR variation is recommended for swimmers that swim longer distance events, such as 200s, 400s, 800s, 1500s, and all IM events.

Most Compressive Tech Suit
Mizuno GX-Sonic V Tech Suit

Quick summary: the GX Sonic V is a very compressive tech suit optimal for all strokes. The ST variation is ideal for 50 and 100 events, and the MR variation for 200 to 400/500 events.

Features include highly water-repellent fabric and taped seams for drag reduction, dual-layering for buoyancy, and sonic line X taping for hip elevation and kick support. This tech suit is also very durable.

The main downside is that the suit is uncomfortable to wear and hard to put on.

Mizuno Sonic GX IV Tech Suit

The Mizuno Sonic GX IV is the previous tech suit released before the new Mizuno Sonic GX V. This suit was very popular and will still make a good fit for pretty much any swimmer today. Some of its features includes a flat-concept design, Sonic Light Ribtex II fabric, Sonic Line X taping, and optimized compression.

Like the Sonic GX V, the GX IV is also available in an ST and MR variation, meaning it is ideal for all swimming events, you just have to choose the suit applicable to you. One benefit to the Sonic GX IV is that it comes in at a slightly lower price than the new Sonic GX V.

>View latest price for the Mizuno Sonic GX IV on SwimOutlet.

Mizuno Sonic GX III Tech Suit

As you have probably already figured out, the Mizuno Sonic GX III was the tech suit released before the Sonic GX IV. The technologies on this suit is slightly older, but nonetheless this suit is still very applicable to modern swimming performance and its features are better than a lot of other new flagship suits.

Like all of the other Mizuno suits the, GX III is also available in an ST and MR variation meaning its ideal for pretty much any swimming event. Once again, this suit comes in cheaper than both the Sonic GX IV and Sonic GX V so you can save some money while still rocking a good suit.

>View latest price for the Mizuno Sonic GX III on SwimOutlet.

Mizuno Sonic MX Tech Suit

The Mizuno Sonic MX is a budget/ mid-range tech suit option and probably one of the best in its category. This suit packs a lot of similar features to the new high end Mizuno Sonic GX III, GX IV, and GX V tech suits, but does cut back on them a little bit to deliver a suit with a more affordable price.

Unlike the other Mizuno suits, the Sonic MX only has one variation, but this variation is applicable to all swimming events from sprinting to long distance swims and everything in between. All in all, a very solid suit- definitely one of my go to options for this price range.

Mizuno MX-Sonic Tech Suit

Quick summary: the Mizuno MX Sonic is a solid mid-range tech suit with a premium design. I recommend this suit for sprinters, but it will also make a good option for events in the 200-400/500 range.

The suit features durable Sonic Light Ribtex II fabric, stitched anchor points, a water-repellent coating, grooved fabric, and compression panels.

My main complaint is the stitched seams. These lack durability and performance.

Finis Tech Suit Sizing Chart:

Finis Rival 2.0 & Finis Rival Sizing

Finis Rival 2.0 Tech Suit

The Finis Rival 2.0 is the latest tech suit released by Finis and packs some highly advanced specifications. Some of its awesome features include shield-tech proprietary fabric, water-resistance, flexible hip panels, hip lift technology, an ultra-lightweight construction, and highly durable materials.

The Rival 2.0 is a good tech suit for pretty much any swimming event and is also ideal for IM events, although I do think that sprinters will benefit most from this suit. Something else I like about this suit is its durable fabric-weave, meaning you’ll have a durable tech suit that retains its features for longer which is something that competitive age-group swimmers might be interested in.

FINIS Rival 2.0 Tech Suit

Quick Summary: The Finis Rival 2.0 is a versatile and durable tech suit ideal for all strokes and events.

The fabric is quite compressive but still offers good flexibility. Other performance-enhancing features include shield-tech proprietary fabric, flexible hip panels, and hip-lift technology, ensuring you perform at your best when racing.

In terms of complaints, I have heard that the women’s suit can be tough to get on.

Finis Rival Tech Suit

The Finis Rival is the previous flagship tech suit released before the new Rival 2.0 tech suit. The suit packs some really great features and comes in at a good mid-range price point. Some of its features include zone compression, one way stretch fabric, muscular efficiency enhancements, dual paneling, and water-repellent technology.

Likewise, the Finis Rival is also ideal for any swimming event. This suit is a good option if you like finis suits but are looking for something a bit less expensive than the new Rival 2.0.

Why Tech Suit Sizing Is Important for Performance

Before we move onto how to choose the ideal tech suit for you, let’s first discuss why tech suit sizing is so important. Despite from the obvious fact that you want the suit to fit snugly and not be too small or too big, the sizing can actually effect the performance benefits of the suit.

Most tech suits fit very tightly and are quite compressive- and that is how they should fit. The idea isn’t to be able to get the suit on in 2-3 minutes, the idea is to be able to enhance your performance in the water and in many cases tech suits take roughly 10-30 minutes to get on.

Ideally, your tech suit should fit tightly and compress your muscles. In some cases, it may be uncomfortable and in other cases not. The idea of this is to enhance blood circulation and increase muscle activation as well as ensuring that any taping is correctly positioned on muscles.

Taping is strategically placed to help pull and push muscles in certain direction and increase their efficiency of working together to help you to swim as fast as possible.

Many parents and swimmers size up since they want their tech suit to fit for longer. This isn’t the right thing to do as it will decrease the performance of the suit, I recommend going with the size most accurate to your measurements and sticking to that. Many times you’ll find that the suit will stretch out a bit over time and you’ll be able to wear it for longer anyway if that is an issue to you.

How to Choose the Right Tech Suit

1. What events you swim

Choosing a tech suit that is optimal for the events and strokes you swim is easily one of the most important factors of choosing your tech suit. Many suits don’t specify whether or not they are designed for specific strokes or events, but there are indications within the features of a suit that shows the most optimal events for the suit.

Other times it isn’t so obvious and some testing may be required. Luckily for you, I’ve already done all the hard work for you and highlighted which events each suit is ideal for in the tech suit descriptions within this article. If you are still unsure consider checking out these articles-

2. Tech Suit Brand

Choosing a tech suit from a big and reputable swimming brand is important since these brands invest a lot of money into the research, technology, and engineering of their tech suits. This will ensure that you receive a quality level tech suit with good features that will enhance your performance and speed in the water.

All of the brands in this article are good swimming brands and I’d recommend any one of their suits if it fits your events. For more information about the above swimming brands as well as some other good options consider checking out my article on the best swimming brands for your swim gear.

3. Tech Suit Compression

Compression is one of the most important factors of a tech suit and plays many important roles in enhancing your swimming performance. Some of its roles include activating your muscles for optimal performance as well as increasing blood circulation to deliver oxygen and nutrients to your muscles at an faster rate.

Keep in mind, the amount of compression in a suit is also going to depend on what events you swim. For sprinters high compression levels are preferred, but for longer distance swimmers, you might want to go with something a little less compressive and comfortable.

4. Tech Suit Drag Reduction

All tech suits have drag reduction technology in their designs. This article doesn’t highlight the differences between the drag-reduction technology between suits too well, but if you’d like a more in depth look at that consider checking out my tech suit articles above for an in-depth look at each suit.

Some suits reduce drag in various ways such as special hydrodynamic designs, water-repellent fabric, and special fabric weaves to help water slide off the fabric more easily. You should ideally look for a suit that has a couple of these features in their design.

5. Tech Suit Fabric

The tech suit fabric is also a good factor to consider, but not one that I’d obsess over too much. Many tech suits use different fabric compositions with the main types being a mix between lycra and nylon. Lycra is more plasticy and will repel water better as well as provide more compression, while nylon is more flexible and comfortable.

Look for a good mix between the fabrics or something leaning more towards a specific fabric depending on what events you swim.

6. Pricing and your skill level

The last factor to consider is the pricing of the tech suit as well as your swimming skill level. For beginner and young competitive swimmers (say under the ages of 13), there is no need to purchase one of the top-end suits. Personally, I’d recommend a budget tech suit like the Finis Fuse or Arena Powerskin ST 2.0, but if the swimmer does compete very competitively and takes his swimming seriously a mid-range option like the Arena R-Evo One or Mizuno Sonic MX might be a good option.

As for older swimmers say ages 14 and up I recommend mid range to high end tech suits if your budget allows it. Also keep in mind, if the swimmer doesn’t take swimming as seriously then a budget suit will probably be enough.

As for swimmers who enjoy the sport and take it seriously I recommend mid- to high-end suits. Keep in mind, if your budget doesn’t allow purchasing one of these expensive suits, a good budget suit like the Finis Fuse will do.

Picking the Right Tech Suit Size Is Important

Tech suits are a great addition to our competition swimming equipment and finding the ideal suit and the right size for that suit can help you to swim that extra bit faster to ultimately claim gold, break a big record, or even qualify for a big swimming meet or team.

That said, I hope this article helped you to find the ideal size for your tech suit, and maybe gave you some more insight about that suit so that you can make sure you are picking up the right tech suit for your swimming events.
