Swimming can be challenging enough on its own- now can you imagine swimming without any clear vision and being practically blinded in the water? Yeah, me neither, it would be really hard and also very frustrating. And that’s exactly why swimming goggles are one of the most important pieces of equipment used by swimmers today.

Swimming goggles allow you to have a clear vision in the water so that you can swim in a straight line, time your turns perfectly, and work on your swimming technique. They’ll also protect your eyes from chemicals in the water, any small objects that may be floating around, and if you’re fortunate enough to swim outside, they’ll protect your eyes from the bright rays of the sun.

As a beginner, you may be a bit unsure of what swimming goggles would make a good fit for you and have good features, you probably also don’t want to spend a ton of money on your goggles just yet. That’s why I’ve put together this article for you- so that you can find a great and affordable pair of goggles with a solid design and a comfortable fit for starting out in the pool and becoming a healthier and fitter individual.

TYR Nest Pro Swimming Goggles

he TYR Nest Pro is a popular pair of goggles that will make a great fit for any beginner swimmer. They’re quite basic in design and provide great comfort, vision, and durability all while coming in at a very reasonable price.

The construction of these goggles is quite unique and was inspired by the bird nest architectural design of the main stadium at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. This forms an innovative grid-like effect, similar to the way a bird’s nest is intertwined for support.

The TYR Nest Pro swimming goggles have a tight, secure, and comfortable fit thanks to their soft TPR gaskets. The frame is designed using a dual-injected system with an over-molded nose-bridge allowing for superior durability.

The lenses allow you to have a wide field of vision in the water and also have anti-fog and UV protection properties to ensure that you have crystal clear vision at all times.

In terms of adjustability, the head strap has an innovative Glide Clip system that allows you to easily adjust it to your preference.

Overall, I think these are a great pair of swimming goggles for beginners. The basic design makes them easy to use and they also look quite unique while packing some nice performance features.

  • Simple and basic design.
  • Comfortable.
  • Durable construction.
  • Affordable price.
  • Innovative and unique design.
  • Secure fit.

What I like about these is the fact that their nose-bridge is part of their design. This makes them far more durable since you won’t be able to accidentally snap the nose bridge. Sure, some swimmers like being able to change out the nose-bridges, but if that’s not important to you then you might want to consider these.

How to Choose Swimming Goggles for Beginners

Before picking up your swimming goggles it’s important to know which features you would want in those goggles and what you’d like to use them for. Below are the 3 most important things to consider when choosing your swimming goggles as a beginner.

Swimming Goggle Purpose

It’s important to know what you want to use your swimming goggles for. Are you going to use them purely to train? Swim laps a few times a week? Swim competitions? Open water? Or maybe even a few of the options listed above combined?

It’s important to ask yourself these questions so that you can know what to look for when picking up your swimming goggles.

If you’re going to use your goggles purely to train or swim laps then I recommend picking up something that is comfortable, durable, and provides good vision in the water.

If you want to use your goggles for swimming competitions then you need to look for something low profile and hydrodynamic. This will help to minimize your drag in the water all will allow you to swim as fast as possible and ultimately win some medals.

If you want goggles for swimming open water then you probably want something with polarized or mirrored lenses and that allows for a wide field of vision so that you can know what’s going on all around you.

And lastly, if you want one goggle that will make a great fit, no matter where or why you’re swimming, then you need to combine the features mentioned above and look for something versatile that has the features most important to you.

Inevitably anti-fog on your goggles will wear off… Don’t worry though! We’ve got you covered check out our article on 6 proven tips to stop your swimming goggles from fogging up to prevent this from happening.

Swimming Goggle Lens

The lens of your goggles is mostly going to depend on the environment you train in. If you train outdoors then I recommend getting goggles with mirrored-, polarized-, or darkly tinted lenses. This will block out the light from the sun and will help you to swim with a clear vision.

If you, however, swim indoors or in an area with mostly low-lighting then I recommend using clear or lightly tinted lenses. Most swimmers will opt for lightly tinted lenses since they look cooler, but if you’re able to pull off the clear goggle look then definitely go for it!

Smokes lenses are mostly the same as tinted lenses. So don’t get confused there!

Swimming Goggle Fit

The fit is also something that’s important to consider. Most swimming goggles are designed with comfort in mind, but the fit may vary depending on how the goggle is designed. If you want to maximize your comfort and vision then you should go for a larger goggle, but if you’re fine with standard comfort while receiving the added benefit of more hydrodynamics and less drag then I’d recommend going with a more low-profile and smaller sized goggle.

See Clearly with a New Pair of Beginner Swimming Goggles

Swimming goggles are a necessary piece of equipment and something that every swimmer needs. That’s why I recommend taking the time to pick a pair of goggles that fit will you well and that you’re happy with.

Swimming goggles will help you to see clearly in the water, they’ll protect your eyes and they’ll ultimately help you to become a better and faster swimmer.
